The Adventure Seeker                                               
Riku has been friends with Sora and Kairi ever since Kairi came onto their island. He's been known to want to go out to all the other worlds outside of their home on the Destiny Islands. Riku is more of a leader rather than a follower and is usually the one calling the shots when the three are working on their makeshift raft to go out sailing to the other worlds.

When the Heartless come to the Destiny Islands to take the world, Sora finds Riku at the end of the Bridge that reaches to a sub-island. This is where Sora and Riku have their last encounter before he sees Riku again in Traverse Town. Riku says something about not being afraid of the darkness, and gestures towards Sora to come with him so that they can go to see other worlds. Sora asks where Kairi is, and Riku shouts that she's coming with them, scared, Sora tries to grab for his hand, but cannot because this isn't the Riku that he knows.

Riku makes a comeback in Traverse Town and sees Sora for the first time in a while, but now Sora has the keyblade. Riku, who's a little surprised, taunts Sora and his new friends, then leaves without saying goodbye. The next time you see Riku, he's watching Sora talk with his newly acquainted friends, all the while, Maleficent is claiming that Sora doesn't need Riku and Kairi anymore, and Riku is starting to believe her.

When Sora, Goofy, and Donald are swallowed up by Monstro, Sora and Riku make and acquaintance yet again, only this time, Riku's after Pinocchio. Riku claims that Sora isn't trying to find Kairi anymore, and that he'd have more fun with his new friends than with Kairi and him. Denying this, Sora tells Riku that Riku's on the wrong side, Riku ignores this and walks off into a dark portal. He comes back later to help Sora and his crew fight Parasite Cage, a heartless that had kidnapped Pinocchio.

The next time Riku appears, he's in the meeting hall with Maleficent and a few others who have allied themselves with the witch. He's taken aboard by Captain Hook onto his ship, where Kairi is waiting for him. He also meets Sora again, but only briefly, as Captain Hook has taken the liberty of ridding Sora from his ship.

The next time Riku sees Sora, he steals Sora's keyblde from him, saying that he has a stronger heart than Sora does. Having bested Sora in the strength of his heart, he leaves for the Castle at Hollow Bastion. When Sora overcomes his humiliating loss, and comes to the castle, Riku is waiting for him in the Grand Hall. They fight, and Sora comes out and the victor, earning back his keyblade, Riku flees from the scene. The two friends fight again, but this time Riku is being controlled by Ansem through the darkness in Riku's heart. Sora is victorious once again, only this time Riku is seen fighting back from Ansem's control. Riku leaves through a dark portal, which leaves Sora to an unconscious Kairi, without her heart.

Riku comes back for a short while, when Sora arrives at what looks to be the Destiny Islands, but it is indeed a trap set up for Sora for his final fight with Ansem! Sora first sees Riku, but then Ansem shows his true face and they fight.

The last time Riku is seen in KH1, is when Sora is by the door to Kingdom Hearts, he's on the outside, and Riku's on the inside with The King. Riku says, "Take care of her" and with Sora's help, shuts the door, leaving Riku and The King to fight a massive amount of heartless alone.

Riku plays a significant role in KH;COM as well, he has his own story, but appears in Sora's story as well. In KH;COM, Riku is trying to defeat Ansem and find a way out of the darkness, he has been told by Ansem and others that darkness in bad, and nothing comes from it, but The King, who is reunited with Riku, states that people need darkness just as they need light. Riku, still unsure fights his way through and immerses himself fully into darkness, saying that it's the only way he can try and fix things.

In KH2, Riku doesn't actually appear until Sora arrives at The World That Never Was, Sora does meet him, but he is shrouded by an Organization XIII robe as a disguise. When Sora actually sees Riku, he sees Ansem, or rather Xehanort's heartless. Kairi quickly defends Riku saying that it's him, Sora believes her and they all are finally reunited. Sora, Riku, Kairi, Donald and Goofy all go to where the King is, to see that the real Ansem the Wise is trying to capture the hearts that Organization XIII had collected. After realizing that he can't collect hearts as data, the machine he made self-destructs and Riku's true form is revealed. The light from all the heartls let loose had completely wiped off his disguise.

Riku and Sora finish off the Organization for good when they destroy Xemnas. After that they are seen at the shore of a gloomy sea, where Sora gets a note from Kairi, and then a bright portal shows up in front of them and they are transported into the sea, close to the island where they played with Kairi. Kairi is waving at them, and they swim to shore where they are reunited with Goofy, Donald, and The King.
