The Seventh Princess
Kairi came to the Destiny Islands without
her memory of where she had originally came from. She became friends with
Sora and Riku, and they hadn't been apart since then. When the heartless
come to the Destiny Islands, Sora finds Kairi in the secret cave looking
dazed, and then she disappears. This is how her journey starts.
During most of the first game, she's only around briefly, usually when
Sora is remembering the past. Throughout most of the game, she's with
Maleficent, who has conned Riku into joining her and the heartless. Kairi
seems non-living when she's re-united with Sora, her heart has gone
missing and Maleficent plans on using her heart to control all the
heartless.
As it turns out, Kairi is the Seventh Princess of Heart, along with
Princess Jasmine, Princess Aurora, Princess Belle, Cinderella, Snow White,
and Alice. These girls all have pure hearts, with no darkness contained
with in them. With all seven in Maleficent grasp she tries to obtain total
control of the heartless, only to be struck down by Sora in the end.
After the defeat and destruction of Maleficent, Sora goes back to Kairi,
to try and get her back. When Riku comes to the scene, he tells Sora that
Kairi's heart is connected to Sora's heart. Riku then challenges Sora to a
battle, only to not be Riku at all and is defeated by Sora, but not
destroyed. Sora, deciding he'd rather have Kairi here more than anything,
strikes himself with his Keyblade to release his heart and give it to
Kairi so that she may return to normal. Sora becomes a heartless but not
for long, because Kairi's heart and his heart connect and Sora returns to
his original self.
After the defeat of Ansem, Sora has to part with Kairi to find Riku. Kairi
and Sora share a memorable moment and then Sora disappears to continue his
quest and find Riku. The last time we see Kairi, she's at the secret cave,
carving a picture of her and Sora on a rock, hoping to never lose him or
Riku ever again.
Kairi doesn't make a big entrance in Kingdom Hearts; Chains of Memories,
in fact Sora starts to lose his memory of her! She's only seen in
flashbacks and at odd moments when Sora is day-dreaming. The reason to her
disappearance in Sora's mind is Naminé, she claims to be a white witch,
but she's a lot more than just a witch. Naminé is making Sora lose his
memories so that they may have another member for Organization XIII.
Kairi debuts again in Kingdom Hearts 2, but she
can't remember Sora! This is because Naminé
swept Sora from existence and
now he's nothing but a far away memory to her. She slowly regains her
memory of him and sends a message in a bottle to him, knowing that it will
reach him someday. This is where she meets Axel, Number VIII from
Organization XIII. He says that he needs to take her somewhere, and claims
that he and her are alike. She runs from him to an opposite portal where
she is taken my Sai'x, Number V of Organization XIII. She's taken captive
and is held in the dungeon of Organization XIII's main headquarters.
She finally meets a familiar face, well sort of, when she's trying to
escape. It's Riku and she and him go to see Sora who's currently in a bind
with Xigbar. This is when Kairi obtains her very own Keyblade. Now she can
fight alongside her friends.
At the
end Sora and Riku are sitting at the shore of a dark sea, where Sora gets
the message in a bottle Kairi had sent. He opens in and reads it, happy
that Kairi had sent it for him, when a blinding light appears before Him
and Riku. They go in together only to emerge in the waters near the
Destiny Islands where Kairi is waving for them to come over to her.
Finally they are re-untied at home.
